Ben Edlund ~ Global Frequency ~ The WB Coming in March 2005

Coming to The WB in March 2005 this show, Global Frequency revolves around an independent defense intelligence organization connected by a worldwide telecommunications web that uses ordinary individuals as agents around the world to fight black ops projects, unexplained phenomena and other problems the government agencies have. Under that deal, Mark Burnettt has also teamed with writer-producer John Rogers (CBS' Cosby) for a drama based on the DC spy comic Global Frequency, which has received a script commitment from the WB. Global Frequeny creator Warren Ellis tells of many of his adventures so far on the Global Frequency set, which is a pilot for the WB that is currently filming. Warren gives out details through his daily diary called "Die Puny Humans".

Liz Craft & Sarah Fain ~ The Shield ~ FX Tuesday 10:00pm

Returns in January 2005 - The Shield breaks the conventional formula of the cop genre. It plays out in a tough, morally ambiguous world in which the line between good and bad is crossed ever day. The series focuses on the tension between a group of corrupt but effective cops and a captain torn between bringing them down and advancing his own political ambitions. The Shield stars Michael Chiklis (The Commish) as rogue cop "Det. Vic Mackey," leader of the elite Strike Team unit, who is effective at eliminating crime but who operates under his own set of rules. Benito Martinez (Outbreak & Her Costly Affair) plays "Captain David Aceveda," the young precinct head who doesn't like Mackey's tactics and wants to bust him off the force. And the Emmy-nominated CCH Pounder (ER & Boycott), plays "Det. Claudette Wyms," a veteran detective who understands Mackey and knows how to play both sides of the fence. More stories of drama and coruption continue this season.

Steve DeKnight ~ Smallville ~ TheWB Wednesday 9:00pm

Premiering September 22nd - Smallville tells the tale of a teenage Clark Kent in the days before he was Superman. It is the town where he came from where very strange things started happening with his arrival in a spaceship in the midst of a meteor storm of green rocks. Clark must deal with a variety of individuals given powers by the green rocks, keep his powers a secret, cope with his friendship with a young Lex Luthor, and balance the two girls in his life, Chloe and Lana. The show also shows us how Lex Luthor develops from a friend of Clark's and kinda-okay guy to (presumably) the villain who will plague Superman in his later years. With the addition of Lois Lane and Clark discovering his wings this season, things can only look up!

Joss Whedon ~ Serenity ~ Coming to Theatres the Fall 2005

Coming to Theatres the Fall 2005 - The film centers around Captain Malcolm Reynolds, a hardened veteran (on the losing side) of a galactic civil war, who now ekes out a living pulling off small crimes and transport-for-hire aboard his ship, "Serenity." He leads a small, eclectic crew who are the closest thing he has left to family -- squabbling, insubordinate and undyingly loyal. When Mal takes on two new passengers -- a young doctor and his unstable, telepathic sister -- he gets much more than he bargained for. The pair are fugitives from the coalition dominating the universe, who will stop at nothing to reclaim the girl. The crew that was once used to skimming the outskirts of the galaxy unnoticed find themselves caught between the unstoppable military force of the Universal Alliance and the horrific, cannibalistic fury of the Reavers, savages who roam the very edge of space. Hunted by vastly different enemies, they begin to discover that the greatest danger to them may be on board "Serenity" herself.

Jane Espenson, Marti Noxon, Doug Petrie, David Greenwalt & Robert Kral

Regrouping some other favorites - Espenson begins her first season on "Tru Calling" for FOX, which returns in January 2005, after her exit at the end of last season's "Gilmore Girls". As Tru Davies continues her quest to save those who shouldn't die watch for some familiar faces to appear in the morgue this season! Noxon will be the co-producer for the series "Point Pleasant" for FOX premiering in January 2005. A supernatural teen drama set on the Jersey Shore. Doug Petrie left Tru Calling last season and heads off into show development on some personal projects of interest. While Greenwalt - having ended his recent creative role with Jake 2.0 - ventures into more show development with some variety in mind. After the Angel finale, musical composer Robert Kral wrote the score for another 13-episodes of "Duck Dodgers". "That season (2) is now finished and we begin Season 3 in December (another 13 episodes)," he told CoA. "It's basically a space opera with lots of action, space chases and battles etc, especially between Dodgers and Marvin the Martian. Season two featured many spoof episodes: we did a Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Zorro, a talent show featuring Tom Jones (with whom Dodgers switches voices with so He can win the show), Godzilla, the 1930's version of Frankenstein, Samurai Jack and many other rip-offs! The music had to be in the style of each movie we were spoofing on, of course, so there were tremendous musical challenges and lots of variety." Combining all this talent in one place is daunting enough, so fans can be grateful in a way that it's being spread around. After all, how else do you encourage young things to grow!
