When they reach the watertank Gunn points out, "You are not paying me enough for this." The scene before them is a group of hooded men fighting eachother with swords. The green, ugly monster that they are fighting over spots the intruders and the hooded men now attack them. Angel is beating a man on the ground. He's so concentrated on his task that he ignores Gunn's plea for help. Wes helps him out, and Gunn is free to plunge an ax in the demon's forehead. The hooded men back off, but Angel is still beating the same one, more feverishly than ever. Wes has to pull Angel off the man. With the battle done, they walk out of the tank, and Angel gives the keys to Cordy and his sword to Wes. He takes off to walk along the streets of Los Angeles. Angel is walking through the popular promenade as he spots Darla in a red blouse. Angel is stunned because he's not sleeping and she' s dressed in modern clothes. In amazement, Angel can only stare at his sire, now surely alive! Act I
On the promenade, Angel is following Darla, but he loses her in the crowd. Angel Investigations. Cordy is talking to a potential client who really wants to see Angel, who is still out walking. Cordy offers to take a preliminary report and Wes conveniently shows him the payment options. Carl Jeakins explains that his wife, Claire, is abducted by aliens on a regular basis, and he takes out the receipt from the Franklin Hotel he found when she was supposed to be in the Trifid Nebula. Angel walks in, extremely upset, and tries to ignore them. Wes shows Carl the door, explaining that Angel is simply being eccentric, while Cordy sits down in front of her computer, sarcastically pointing out that they don't have many paying clients. Meanwhile, Angel is in a different zone. He seems mesmerized by Cordy's hair and caresses it with fierce passionate intensity. Cordy gets wierded out and claims her personal space. She gets up, while Wes comes in and asks what's going on. Angel snaps out of his altered state of self. Angel apologizes, "I've just been so out of it lately-because of her. I saw her here in town last night." Cordy thinks it's Buffy, but Angel corrects her-it's Darla. Angel admits to dreaming about her, vivid dreams. He finally knows that he's not crazy because she is really alive. Wes knows it's impossible because Angel staked her three and a half years ago. Angel understands Wes's point of view, but he's positive that it was her, and very alive. Wes explains that it could be guilt, while Cordy is trying to get Angel focused on working and earning money. Angel thinks about it, "Maybe I'm dreaming about her because she' s here." But Wes turns it around, "Maybe you think she's here because your dreaming about her." At Lyndsey's office, Darla is proud of herself because she's making Angel fall apart. Lyndsey compliments her on her progress, and thanks her for all of the additional information she's given Wolfram & Hart. She asks about the plan, but Lyndsey only says, "We don't want him dead. We want him dark." Darla looks at his prosthetic hand, and caresses it. There is a definite attraction from Lyndsey's part, but not much from Darla. She steps away and contemplates Angel's situation: a soul on a being with such power. She thinks it's a waste, but regrets only missed opportunities. Lyndsey holds a file on Angel. Many people are interested in Angel. Los Angeles police station. Kate is shuffling paper while listening to a scanner. She's no longer working downtown. Jack, an old co-worker of Kate, brings by a file with Angel's new location, a photo of the Hyperion Hotel in included. Act II
Angel fights off the security officer and Darla uses this opportunity to run into the front lobby, filled with sunlight, and into the arms of her husband. Angel is beyond stunned. He stares as Darla is comforted by her husband beneath direct sunlight. The team returns to headquarters, and Cordy isn't too happy about running from security, and the public humiliation. Wes looks at the brighter side of the situation because Darla in sunlight means she's not Darla. Angel is thumbing through the phonebook looking for Darla's human telephone number because he knows it is her-he knows her scent. Wes doubts this, but Angel proves it, "You had sex last night with a bleached blonde." Point proven- it is Darla. Now they are on the prowl for DeEtter Kramer. Because Angel will do anything to find her, he asks Wes for some cash to pay the cover charge at the karoke bar. Angel is singing "Wang Chung Tonight", as his usual self but more angry than usual and with incredible desperation. He shuts the music down, and quickly heads to the Anagogic demon having a drink trying to enjoy the show. Angel is vibrating out lots of different things. He refuses to read him, because Darla is major trouble and not part of his path. He advises Angel to let Darla go. But Angel wants to know where she is and the mystic demon does not give in to Angel's threats. Angel is very frustrated and turns to the people who always help him. Angel calls Cordy for the address, but she pauses trying to advise him not to . . . .but he persists and she gives it to him: 1409 Gallaway Studio City. Angel hangs up and takes off to the address. Wes takes out a tranquilizer gun and loads it in case Angel goes batty, but Cordy realizes it may not be enough and so they call Gunn. A suburban neighborhood. Angel is sneaking through a yard, and comes up to a window that looks into a beautiful scene of Stephen and Darla pretending to be husband and wife, while a guard is out of sight. Stephen is an actor, and annoying the hell out of Darla, who is eating linguini. She threatens him with death and he finally shuts up. Darla has an earpiece and microphone so that she can talk to Lyndsey, who is listening to everything back in his office. She tells Lyndsey Angel is there, but Lyndsey needs a few more moments to set things up. At headquarters, Gunn looks down at the tranquilizer gun, and chains, while Wes explains Angel's special situation concerning his turning evil. Cordy and Wes are researching if Darla has any powers of resurrection. Gunn wants to know how evil Angel was and Wes confirms his fears. Act III
The Hyperion Hotel. Wes and Cordy are still researching, while Gunn is trying to accept the possibility of Angel evil. To the surprise of everyone, a swat team with Kate in the lead crashes through the door. Kate points out that Angel killed Stephen and kidnapped his wife. She orders the team to search thoroughly. Gunn is eyed by Kate, who quickly asks for his identification to see if he's got a rap sheet. Wes and Cordy defend Angel, and refuse to corroborate, but Kate throws at them, "Who's Darla?" Act IV
Cut to the Hyperion Hotel, where Kate has Gunn's rap sheet in her hand. Cordy defends him but reminds Kate they want to find Angel as much as she does. Kate tells them what Angel did and Gunn points out that Angel can't enter unless he's invited. This puts a dent in Kate's argument as well as the over a hundred year old Daguerreotype of Darla that Wes has placed in front of her, "Look familiar?" This brings doubt to Kate's assumptions, but she doesn't seem phased. Back at the water tank, Angel pulls Darla off and asks her what the plan is from Wolfram & Hart. Darla wants the old Angel back, but he tells her things are going to be different now because she is now a human with a soul. Darla wants to give him a moment of happiness. Angel retorts, "You took me places, showed me things, you blew the top off my head, but you never made me happy." Darla can't believe him because they shared everything for a hundred and fifty years. She points out, "Buffy wasn't happiness, she was just new." Angel laughs because he could never feel happiness with Darla because he did not have a soul. Darla embraces him and tries to convince him that he was born evil, "My boy is still in there and he wants out!" Angel can only listen stoically to her words. Kate is still at the Hyperion. The search turned up nothing and Kate is leaving. Cordy figured out that the owners of house must have been dead in order for Angel to walk in without a problem. Kate argues that what she holds Angel accountable for all the innocents that get caught in the crossfire, like Steven. It's daytime and Angel and Darla are still in the water tank. There seems to be a stalemate between them. Angel is waiting for Darla's newfound soul to feel all that she had done in her past, but she refuses it. He threatens to kill her, but she taunts him with the words he used in his dreams. He grabs her by the neck, and she takes out a cross against his chest. It burns him, but he keeps a hold on her neck. He shoves her away, and she runs up the stairs into the light, "What no good-bye kiss?" she taunts, and walks into the safety of the light, where Angel can't follow. Angel has been sitting in his room all day. There's a knock on the door and it's Wes and Cordy checking to see if Angle's turned bad. He assures them he's not, and Wes also points out that with Darla and Wolfram & Hart joining forces there is going to be a lot of new trouble coming. Angel replies, "Bring it on."
